Midday movers: Dell, InterOil

Stocks are lower in early afternoon trading, but the losses remain fairly small -- after Thursday's selloff, that can be considered a victory.

Dell (DELL) shares were little changed for much of the morning after the troubled computer maker reported adjusted earnings and revenues that were a bit above expectations last night. However, shares moved up a bit during afternoon trading as headlines crossed regarding Carl Icahn's fight to block the company's deal to be taken private by founder Michael Dell.

Among the notable gainers were Pain Therapeutics (PTIE), which rose 25%, and Durect Corporation (DRRX), which advanced 13% after the government reported that Pfizer (PFE) was launching a new study of a painkiller drug, Remoxy.

Among the noteworthy losers was First Marblehead (FMD), which dropped 35% after its earnings report.

Also lower were shares of InterOil (IOC), which slid 5% after an industry site stated that the company had not reached a deal to sell a stake in its Elk-Antelope field to Exxon Mobil (XOM), though InterOil came out and stated negotiations with Exxon are ongoing.
