Beaten to the punch by peer institutions in such countries as Mozambique and Hungary, the U.S. Postal Service is set to introduce a Steve Jobs commemorative stamp in 2015.

According to a post-office document unearthed by The Washington Post, a stamp featuring the Apple (AAPL) co-founder is an approved subject of the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee.

The stamp is identified as being in its design-development phase -- which is why MarketWatch graphic artist Terrence Horan has taken the liberty of mocking up the versions shown at left.

Additional stamps for philatelists and other post-office customers to look forward to in coming years, according to a Scribd.com document published by The Post, range from Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix to songbirds and best-loved pets.

Jobs was honored by MarketWatch as its CEO of the Decade in 2010. He died in 2011 of pancreatic cancer.
