Lee Marshall, the voice of Kellogg's (K) Tony the Tiger, has died.

Marshall started voicing Tony the Tiger in 1999. He completely replaced Thurl Ravenscroft, who had voiced the cereal mascot since 1952, in 2005.

He died from esophageal cancer on April 26 while at the Santa Monica Hospital in California, reports The Huffington Post. Marshall was 64.

Marshall also was a voice actor for several cartoons, and also worked as a DJ, news anchor and sports broadcaster. The Los Angeles Times pointed out a great quip from Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda: "If God ever wanted to make a speech, Lee Marshall would get the call."

Marshall is survived by his wife, son, stepdaughter and granddaughter, reports The Huffington Post.

Kellogg has yet to announce who will replace him as Tony the Tiger, but did say that it will be someone that can emulate his deep voice, The Huffington Post notes.

Hear Marshall as Tony the Tiger in this clip.

Sadly, he paled in comparison to the original voice of Tony the Tiger - some also know as the man who sang "You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch", Thurl Ravenscroft, a TRUE voice actor.

Sorry to hear this. Condolences to his family and friends. Have a friend whose husband passed away from laryngeal cancer a few years ago. He had never smoked a day in his life.

I didn't know about the second voice of Tony the Tiger; the person I'll remember is the first (and best) voice, Thurl Ravensrcoft (1952-2005).

Interesting that no mention is made of his past as a pro wrestling announcer.

Both men did the job well. Tony the Tiger is an American Institution. Not certain what warcat's comment,  "never smoked a day in his life" has to do with it.

They don't even mention which cereal he was the mascot for.  When is Microsoft going to learn that software and journalism are not even remotely related?

Don't even know who this guy is...Who cares.

And my neighbors and friends have or have had Cancer...I know them.

He just a voice, of Unknowns...

He's not the Tony I met years ago as a kid...I want to hear Thurl on the clip...Not Marshall.

Oh yeah it was Frrrrrrosted Flakes....From Kelloggs in Battle Creek, MI.

Think it's called "Cereal Capital of the World" or something like that.?

Also has the "World's Longest Breakfast Table Record" or did?

These days a shady lady calling herself "Silly Rabbit" is doing "trix" for a racist billionaire NBA geezer, so I guess our latest Tony Tiger impersonator gets some air time to balance out the universe.
