The iPhone 5 is still the de facto winner
The Nokia and Motorola supporters are dismissing 2 key points.
You can read all about the Nokia (NOK) and the Motorola phones and think that maybe these are, at last, the Apple (AAPL) rivals that people want.
To me, that means the Nokia and Motorola supporters are dismissing two key points:
- The youthful demographic likes the Apple ecosystem. They want their music on their phone. They want all things Apple because they like the look and feel of what Steve Jobs created.
- The big telcos have to get behind Apple, not Motorola and Nokia, because otherwise customers will switch to Sprint (S), which is coming on strong with the heavily subsidized Apple offerings. Sprint is the third player that neither Verizon (VZ) nor AT&T (T) thought could still be a third player -- and it is doing so with Apple.
No kidding that the prospect of the new iPhone5 is freezing the old 4S. We know that the hole in the release that could end in September will define Apple's fourth quarter.
But more important, the Nokia and Motorola offerings don't seem to have anything that is so fabulous that you want to go with theirs and not Apple.
Nokia's being downgraded all over the place because Windows 8 doesn't seem to be grabbing people. Motorola? After the Verizon/ATT/Sprint subsidy Motorola's just not good enough to switch.
It's not game-set-match Apple, because people like the Google (GOOG) operating system, too, and, of course, Google is Motorola.
But Apple's iPhone5 is the de facto winner simply because these new competitive iterations don't have anything on the Apple 4S and that's the old Apple phone.

Apple has roughly 17% world market share in the smart phone market.
They have had to result to patent trolling their primary supplier of components, Samsung, because their smartphones (androids, Galaxy etc) are eatting their lunch.
Apple's mark up to outrageously expensive price tags and drone like fanboy base is the only thing keeping them from slipping as hard or as fast as they normally would. Also once the patient litigation is settled, and their claims of a rectangle with rounded corners being proprietary is thrown out they will further flounder in this same market.
Apple has been beat for a while. They have just had margins so huge to hide it.
WTF, are you smoking crack! Samsung wiped the floor with AAPL's next release with the Galaxy S III regardless of what a stacked jury decided. And if that isn't enough the Win 8 devices from NOK and SSNLF are going to turn the market on its head. BTW, news flash, just in case you missed it; Jobs is dead. So, it's time to stop suckling at AAPL's teat and realize AAPL's dominance will not last forever regardless of how hard you try to prop up it up.
iPhone 5 is the BEST?!?!?! what load of crap because nobody knows anything about it right now. Apple is only good at 2 things... propaganda and lawsuits. I wonder how much money did Apple pay this yahoo to write this article? They build the hype and idiots like Jim Cramer buy into it before they ever know what it is or what it does. They already made up their mind to buy it before even knowing anything about it. I swear if apple makes a iPhone with a 1 inch screen and call it the iPhone nano, I bet millions of people will buy it even though it is absolutely worthless as a smartphone. They make a big deal about new features that are already available to other phones years ago. Features such as video on the 3g. Wow, my clamshell flip phone had video 2 years prior. What about multitasking... My Samsung did that way before Apple had it... Siri? just an integration of an already available software that most smart phone can get. Apple is behind the curve and copies other companies’ features all the time. But when somebody else uses a feature that they came up with… lawsuit.
I love my Samsung Note! My wife has a iPhone 4s. She ends up using my phone most of the time when we are on the road and she wants to browse the net. Say what you will but a larger screen is awesome. I may be corrected when the new iPhones come out but the iPhones 4s are far behind its competitors in all aspects.
You forgot to mention Samsung and the S2 and S3 which both have
better interface , faster processor , much larger screen my S3 screen is the same size as the entire 4S phone, no antenna problems and is 4G not 3G
Iphone 5 will only have a 4" Screen and 4G and possibly eliminate the antenna problem.
Apple at best is second place with HTC on its heels and Samsung way out in first

I love mine, my kids love theirs.
Times change. I know lots of people getting tired of getting a new iPhone that looks identical to the last iPhone. I hate the icons.
So many fools that write about "smart phones" Apple wins because they have 600,000 apps. Name the top 25 used by consumers. You will have trouble. Then do all phones support the top 25. Yep. So the app number is made up by Apple to create a non-feature, but the poor reviewers that can't think, all say, Windows is way behind, Apple has 600,000 apps. Seriously, I don't need 8467 version of solitary.
You like your phone. Great, but you are foolish to think Windows and Samsung cannot go after iPhone.
You sound like the person that said the hula-hoop is the greatest toy ever. Or the person that claimed we don't need new patents because every new idea has been thought up.
I love the new Nokia 920. I will buy one for everyone in my family. I personally want a yellow one. good luck with your iPhone. Its just a phone.
