IPhone discounts pouring in
Wal-Mart begins cutting prices on the current model, following moves by Sprint and other retailers trying to clear out inventory before the iPhone 5 debuts.
Wal-Mart (WMT) has begun selling the 16 GB version of the iPhone 4S for just $148. That's a $40 discount from before, though you still have to sign a two-year contract with AT&T (T), Sprint (S) or Verizon (VZ) to get it.
Sprint, by the way, already chopped the price of the iPhone 4S earlier this month to $149, reports AllThingsD. Target (TGT) sells the device for $150, PC World reports.
You may not see these discounts at Apple (AAPL) retail stores, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Apple employees have authorization to match some discounts, which makes sense, because the company doesn't want to get stuck with a lot of inventory as the new device comes out. IPhone sales already began slowing in the company's recently reported quarter as buyers delayed purchases.
The tech world is expecting the next iPhone -- presumably called the iPhone 5 -- to be announced on Sept. 12 and go on sale by Sept. 21. It very well could be Apple's biggest product ever, and anticipation is very high. With new models out from Samsung that are nothing short of spectacular, Apple will need to show the world something big just to stay a step ahead.
Don't buy that iPhone 4S just yet, analysts say. The following video has more details:

How is it possible that my comment on another article said it was spam, but 90% of the comments on this page alone were spam?
With the smaller dock did they just screw everyone who has accessories? If you buy the new iphone will you have to buy all new accessories that fit only the iphone 5? Sure wouldn't surprise me. They make a ton of money on wire that's worth a few pennies. $30 for a connector? Come on, how about $7 or $8?
