Midday movers: Valeant, Exelon

Stocks are up about 1% as reports show consumer confidence climbs and home prices advance.

Valeant (VRX), which gained about 13% Friday after The Wall Street Journal said it was close to acquiring Bausch & Lomb for $9 billion, advanced another 7% after confirming a deal to acquire the company for $8.7 billion. 

Valeant also announced that it has received a Complete Response Letter from the FDA regarding its application for a drug to treat fungal infections of the nail. 

Among the notable gainers was Omthera Pharmaceuticals (OMTH), which nearly doubled to $13.47 after agreeing to be acquired by AstraZeneca (AZN) for $12.70 per share plus Contingent Value Rights, or CVRs, of up to approximately $4.70 per share if specified milestones are achieved. 

Also higher were shares of CapLease (LSE), which rose over 20% after agreeing to be acquired by American Realty Capital Properties (ARCP) for $8.50 per share. 

Among the noteworthy losers were EnerNOC (ENOC), down 18%, Exelon (EXC), down 7.5%, and FirstEnergy (FE), down 7% after PJM Interconnection announced late Friday the results of its annual capacity auction.
